FOCUS
HOW CAN TWO PEOPLE IN IDENTICAL ENVIRONMENTS
TURN OUT DIFFERENTLY?
FOCUS
In elementary school, this phenomenon especially interested me.
By test time, after sitting through the exact same classes, some failed, and some got perfect.
The same goes with 'real life' following school.
Some people with similar - even identical - jobs eventually move up, while others don't.
For awhile, I found it easiest to pad my ego with this answer:
I do better than everyone else because I’m a better person.
After a lot of time (and a little maturity), a different answer showed up.
FOCUS
Well, first, I gave the better person idea more and more thought...
And I realized I had tons of friends who were great people doing poorly in school.
So if it wasn't being a 'good person' (whatever that means)...
What was it?
SOCIAL STATUS?
FAMILY SITUATION?
ATHLETIC ABILITY?
IQ?
TALENT?
FOCUS
As time went on, I gathered more and more information...
And just when I thought it was one thing...
I would see someone who disproved it.
The search never ended...
UNTIL NOW.
In the current state of the world you can design your own matrix.
Most people don't, but everyone can.
In fact...
Whether you want to take responsibility for it or not...
YOU HAVE ALWAYS BEEN DESIGNING YOUR OWN MATRIX
FOCUS
tHERE IS ONE THING THAT EVERYONE ON EARTH CONTROLS:
FOCUS
wHETHER YOU WANT TO ADMIT IT OR NOT...
YOU ARE IN CONTROL OF YOUR CHOICES...
YOU CHOOSE WHAT YOU FOCUS ON.
YOUR MATRIX IS WHAT YOU FOCUS ON.
aND SINCE YOU CAN CHOOSE YOUR FOCUS...
YOU CAN CHOOSE YOUR MATRIX.
YOU HAVE ALWAYS BEEN CHOOSING YOUR MATRIX.
We're all just buying ideas with our time.
Becoming good at school (or anything else for that matter) is simple.
You focus your time, energy, and life on it.
That's it.
THESE FACTS
- Life is finite (and incredibly short)
- It never stops
- There are an infinite amount of ideas
MAKE THIS true
- You can't have everything
- You're always making choices (whether you like it or not)
- You need to say no to most ideas
YOUR LIFE IS JUST A SCRAPBOOK OF YOUR CHOICES OF FOCUS
MAJOR CHOICE AREAS
where you put yourself
who you surround yourself with
what you choose to do for work
how much you use your phonE
where you get your information from
newspapers?
the news?
social media?
books?
movies? Which ones?
As each moment passes, you're making a choice of how you spend your life.
Now, the big question is:
WHO IS DOING THE CHOOSING?
Are you taking responsibility for your focus?
Or, are you deluding yourself into thinking something else controls your focus instead of you?
Before our time is done here, get this:
Given the nature of life, you are constantly saying no to things.
Reading this article right now means you're saying no to:
pooping
playing with legos
running a marathon
going to visit the Eiffel tower
watching a movie
rock climbing
walking your dog
So since you're always saying no to things...
Why not make these no's on-purpose... not by accident.
YOU'RE ALWAYS SAYING NO...
TO EVERY PART OF THE WORLD OUTSIDE YOUR FOCUS.
THE REAL QUESTION IS THIS:
IS YOUR NO IN YOUR CONTROL?
OR THEIRS?
We've all been given the same life on the same earth.
We all exist in the same environment.
But, we all have different lives.
Are you going to design your own matrix?
Or let the world design yours for you?
NOTHING VENTURED,
NOTHING GAINED.
If you actually try things and stick your neck out, you’re going to have a lot more fun than if you sit at home and watch other people do it.
