how many rappers do you know?

One? Two maybe?

A different question: how many people do you know who have seriously tried to become rappers?

Hmm… probably two.

Somewhere along the way, we reasoned that it is difficult to become a rapper.

Based on odds of 2/2? Really?

The truth is never as far out of reach as it feels.

It’s really only a question away…

“Is this true?”

As a metaphor for being yourself, we can use the rapper example the whole way through.

Somehow, as a society, we have become experts in the pre-rapper stage; professional qualifiers of why we shouldn’t - or even better: can’t - become a rapper.

We’re absolute geniuses at reminding ourselves - on a daily basis! - of all the reasons we aren’t cut it out to make it as a rapper. Every time a spark comes up to go for it, we have a bigger glass of water ready to put it out.

It’s almost a reflex, and I think our ability to do this is absolutely amazing.

adjective

  1. causing great surprise or wonder; astonishing.

What’s could be considered even more amazing than our ability to maintain this reflex for ourselves, is our ability to keep it active for others too.

A buddy considers becoming a rapper…

“Really? Right now? Do you have enough money? What if it doesn’t work? How will you ever be hired again?”

OUR ABILITY TO KEEP EACH OTHER ‘SAFE’ IS APPALLING

TRUTH CHECK

ap·pall·ing

adjective

  1. causing shock or dismay; horrific.

The most horrifying part about our fear of ourselves - or anyone we know for that matter - becoming a rapper is that it is completely unfounded.

adjective

  1. having no foundation or basis in fact.

Remember our science experiment earlier? Where we checked to see how many rappers we know?

I’m not sure if I mentioned it, but based on my calculations…

100% OF PEOPLE WHO TRY TO BECOME RAPPERS

BECOME RAPPERS.

Do you need to hear it again?

100% OF PEOPLE WHO TRY TO BECOME RAPPERS

BECOME RAPPERS.

So why the heck are we so scared of becoming a rapper!

It doesn’t make sense!

Talking on the phone with my good buddy Mr. Trip yesterday brought a golden nugget of an idea:

“Most people are afraid of learning.”

And in our case we might reword that to:

“Most people are afraid of becoming a rapper.”

Remember that word unfounded? Something that isn’t based on fact?

Let’s try to replace that word with: Reality.

Come with me on a trip for a second, we’re right on the precipice of your brain rewiring to think a new way, this is the best part…

We all have our own individual realities.

This is because most of our thoughts are mostly unseen by other people.

The more our minds are seen by others, the more true our stories about Reality become.

Until our thoughts are exposed to the world, they are merely stories about how we perceive Reality.

And since we are extremely incapable people on our own, unexposed stories are often wrong.

What’s frightening to think about is just how little of our minds we expose.

And since unseen stories are disconnected from reality…

Most of the time we are wrong.

The best antidote?

GO DEEPER INTO YOUR RELATIONSHIPS.

Expose yourself. Be seen. Get honest.

Because if you’re really honest with yourself…

You wouldn’t want anyone you know to go their whole lives believing they can’t become a rapper when they in fact have a 100% chance of making it.

And since you wouldn’t want this for anyone else…

Just imagine if this is the story that you choose to make Reality for yourself.

Lying to others will never effect you as much as lying to yourself.

Because…

The most important relationship to go deeper into is…

the one you have with yourself.

This perfect world has already been made. You’re living in it.

It’s customized to your exact preferences, and you didn’t even know it.

The best part? The only way to make yours better is to peer inside the world of others.

If you want, you can live this great life many times over.

From a great mentor of mine:

“The quality of your life is determined by

the quality of your relationships.”

Because we can all become rappers.
