Do you scroll instagram more than you'd like?
Does a quick check before bed turn into hours of scrolling?
Do you find yourself thinking about Instagram often throughout the day?
Are you constantly on the lookout of what to post next?
Do you find yourself constantly comparing yourself to Instagram models?
Do you find yourself becoming closer to the characters of your friends
- the icons of their personality - than you are to them in real life?
Using Instagram becomes dangerous when you stop realizing the trick it's playing on you.
When you're so into it that you completely forget that it's its own, separate reality based on this one - instead of actually being this one.
You might feel like...
you're a loser because you're not travelling every month of the year.
You're a fat slob, because your abs only look like theirs the morning after you drink.
you have the most boring job in the entire universe.
Spelled out on paper, these thoughts are obviously untrue, not helping you in any way.
But you don't realize this when you think them, do you?
Let's get to work on letting them go.
STEP #1: START TAKING RESPONSIBILITY
FOR WHERE YOU PUT YOUR ENERGY.
nOBODY IS FORCING YOU TO USE INSTAGRAM INSTEAD OF ACTUALLY TRAVELLING THE WORLD.
YOu would rather look at someone else's awesome life than make your own life awesome.
IT'S YOUR FAULT YOU LIVE VICARIOUSLY THROUGH YOUR FRIENDS THAN THROUGH YOURSELF.
It's all your fault, and this couldn't be better news.
BECAUSE IF IT'S YOUR FAULT...
FIXING IT IS ENTIRELY IN YOUR CONTROL.
The only person who gets to decide how awesome your life is is you.
Nobody else in the world knows what kind of life you want to live, so why would you judge your life based on what they want for theirs?
You want to know how to stop feeling controlled by Instagram?
STEP #2: START CONTROLLING YOUR LIFE.
You want to go traveL? GO travel.
You want a different job? Get a different job.
You want abs all the time? Go get abs all the time.
The beautiful thing about this life is that while we all have a unique set of wants...
we all have the same set of capabilities.
anything they can do, you can do too.
ANYTHING THEY CAN DO...
YOU CAN DO TOO.
The greatest gift you can give to yourself and to others in this life is actually living the life you want to live.
Life is kind of like a video game. You control your character, and you get to design and play the game however you want to.
There are worlds within the video game, different realities where you can experience lesser versions of the game.
Ones where you get to see and hear what it's like for other people (e.g. YouTube), but you miss out on the tastes, smells, and feels.
When you escape your own reality to live through others, or use substances (drugs, food, actual video games, etc.), you don't even get a chance at experiencing the best part of all of these realities:
Energy in motion. all the good stuff behind the surface.
You miss out on what it actually feels like to live.
What could be more important?
Liberate yourself with self-acceptance. You don't live this magical life that you see these magical people magically living. Get over it. Complaining about it, or feeling sorry for yourself doesn't do anything.
You don't suck, and they don't rock. Do they remind you of the life you want to live? Then go and live it. You're not attracted to their life specifically, but the energy that comes along with someone actually living how they want to. Start living that way, and you may find yourself experiencing the energy and power that comes along with it.
You've got two choices: Change yourself to become who you want to be, enjoying the entire transformation, or do absolutely nothing to affect the state of your life, other than eliminating every last drop of feeling sorry for yourself. Not living the life you want, and being okay with it is not an option.
You're a wonderful person.
You deserve to be good to yourself.
You know how I know? Because I know I am, and we're not that unalike.
The feeling of existing inside a reality that you create for yourself that is exactly how you want it to be is truly heaven on earth.
While it's easier to live through Instagram (or other drugs), you must resist to the urge to lie to yourself.
No matter how much you think you want the lives you see on Instagram, I promise you want to live through yours more.
Deep down, what you want the most is to live the life you want.
And if there's anyone who deserves to get what they want, it's you.
And now that you know you're worth it, go fucking get it.
