Awhile ago I realized that my dream had changed...
Instead of becoming a global influencer in the world of self development...
I wanted to become a professional taker of booty pics... or something like that.
All this Instagram had molded my mind...
With me even realizing it.
Since it's probably already sculpting yours into a booty-obsessed machine...
Let me help you with that.
REALIZATION #1: YOUR ENVIRONMENT BECOMES YOU.
For the nerds: here is a beautiful article to go deeper on this concept (about 2 mins long).
For the rest of you, I want to draw your attention to one particular quote:
You wouldn't think that scrolling Instagram is a part of your environment...
But boy, is it ever!
If you want to go deep on this, check out my article on how to use your phone.
The long and the short of it is that whatever you expose yourself to becomes a part of you. If you're looking at beautiful people on Instagram all day, that will become a part of you, and you will judge yourself and everyone as lesser because of it.
REALIZATION #2: THERE'S MORE TO LIFE THAN BOOTY.
Instagram teaches you that life is all about surface level things:
- expensive stuff
- perfect bodies (and skin)
- travelling to exotic places
When really, I think there are a couple more important things in life, like:
- your ability to keep your commitments;
- to be honest;
- and kind
- the depth of your relationships
- your happiness levels on a day-to-day basis
NOTICE HOW NONE OF THESE THINGS HAVE TO DO WITH INSTAGRAM
(OR YOUR PHONE) AT ALL.
REALIZATION #3: LIFE HAPPENS OFF YOUR PHONE
AND IN REALITY.
If you're checking Instagram all the time, you're probably living in the real world little of the time.
And it's about a lot more than time:
It's about focus.
And it's about opportunity cost.
For every minute you spend consuming Instagram, you have one less minute to spend living the beautiful thing that is life.
If you can't pull yourself away from Instagram, chances are...
- You have something in your reality (pain) you don't want to deal with, and Instagram helps you hide from this thing
- You don't have a big goal that you care more about than consuming Instagram
So, take action on healing your pain and get a big goal.
Boredom happens when you're too lazy to commit
to becoming responsible for something you care about.
So commit to something new.
Heal your pain.
And start living off your phone...
